Recently, my friend had an issue, where even though everything was set up correctly, he wouldn’t get any input signal in Cubase. It worked fine in Logic, with the exact same settings of the interface and the software controlling it. That got me thinking – is there anything else that might be in the way?
TURNS OUT THERE WAS. THE OS ITSELF!
Mac wants you to be safe. Nothing wrong with that. Problem emerges when they (or software developers) don’t manage the permissions correctly. It might have been the case of Cubase not even showing the message about “Hey, if you’d like to record, you should give me permission to use the microphone (in reality – any of the audio input devices connected to the Mac)!”
So here’s how you fix it:
- Go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy tab,
- Under Microphone, check if “Cubase” is ticked.
